** This standalone title was previously found in ONE HAUNTED EVENING **

After inheriting a reputedly haunted medieval castle, the Marquess of Bradenham heads to Ravenglass with his friends to inspect the place and host a Samhain masquerade party. He gets a most welcome surprise when he meets a lovely girl in the castle’s gardens and the rest of his life suddenly has a purpose.

Callie Eilbeck has always avoided Marisdun Castle, there’s something about the place that has terrified her from even her youngest days. But after a chance encounter with the castle’s new owner and falling rather fast for handsome marquess, Callie vanishes without a trace just like the castle’s former mistress. Is one of Bradenham’s friends responsible for her disappearance? Or has the castle claimed another victim? And can the marquess find her before it’s too late and she’s lost forever?

Several times, some characters referred to women who didn't have their drawers on, with the implication being that this was something risqué, titillating, and only done by fast women. Problem is that the setting was in 1815 and no women wore drawers at that time. Maybe it's a minor quibble, but it drove me crazy, especially as it was repeated more than once.

The setting was England, where there was a deeply entrenched deference to rank. The hero was an aristocrat who had just inherited the major landholding in the area. Yet he let a non-aristocratic local magistrate rudely upbraid him over his guests' behaviour. As well, the hero meekly acquiesced when the magistrate warned him that he wouldn't allow the hero and his house party disrupt "his" town. In most places the major landholder would BE the magistrate and when he wasn't, the person who was the magistrate wouldn't dare act disrespectfully towards the aristocrat.

These sorts of errors might not spoil the story for some readers, but they took me out of the story and I didn't enjoy it.

The basic plot was good but the execution was weak. Dialogue was stilted and simplistic, characters weren't fleshed out enough, and the plot was not well-developed. It read more like an expanded outline or first draft.

This was a clean read and anyone looking for a simple little story might enjoy it, especially if historical accuracy isn't too important. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional regency romance in the vein of Georgette Heyer or the old Signet Regency romance books.

The Lady Vanishes Regency Seasons Novellas Book 5 edition by Ava Stone Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

The idea for the plot was good, but the follow through...? Not so much. I skipped 1/3 of the novel and still understood what was happening. The characters were sometimes likeable, but the romance seemed rushed and juvenile. The dialogue was somewhat sophomoric, which was especially off-putting because the H was supposedly 29. I typically like the author, but the last 2 books I have read by her have left me feeling disappointed.
When the spirit of his grandmother snatches the girl he is in love with and brings her to the spirit worls can our hero find a way to bring her back for him? We'll written. Keeps you guessing til the end.
Haunted castles and love at first sight, a spooky tale comes true and happy endings are had by most. This twisted spooky love story has the reader holding their breaths and turning on lights as they wait for the next page to reveal who will cross the veil.
Just finished The Lady Vanishes, by Ava Stone. I chose this book to read because of an old b/w movie of the same title. This book is excellent. Love-at-first-sight romance, supernatural, hauntings, and a happy ending. What more can you want? Very enjoyable read, I really liked it.
I finally got a chance to read Braden and Callie's story. Boy meets girl, and talk about love at first sight! Two people couldn't be more right for each other. Kind of reminded me of how I first met the love of my life.

Of course, there will come a twist Callie vanishes in thin air, and Braden and his friends scramble to find her and rescue her before Samhain ends or she is lost forever.

Just a reminder this is a novella, not a full length novel, so reading this may want you asking for more. I know I do!
This is my first book by Ms. Stone. I had so much fun reading this story. What more can you ask for haunted castle, ghosts, ladies that disappear into the bushes and are trapped in another dimension. This story was a quick, fun read and I really enjoyed it. I'll be getting the others in the series as well to see what happens with the rest of the Marquess' family. I recommend this book to others.
I really enjoyed this book, for one thing this author is very good, also it was a little different than the usual historical romance. And given the number of authors in historical romances she is one of the authors are go-to, for consistent stories and imagination.

there was one error that I stopped me, trying to figure out if I was having a grey moment; Pg. 75 "amendable" did not make sense in the sentence. amendable....to alter, modify paraphrase,.....I think she mend amenable but not sure. I actually doubt she made the error, but perhaps a typesetting error, or mistake on computer?

The book is a romance, but so much more for a "short" but it was fun, suspenseful enough for this old lady, and perfectly delightful. Ms. Stone's books are always well written, which is the only reason I mention that one word on page 95; but I honestly believe any real reader would like the book aside of this tiny thing. Her books are always so fun to read.
